Adults Can be Rock Stars Too!
Did you know that we offer private lessons and ensembles for ALL ages at RMC?
Meet Amy Barnhart, and adult who tried out a music lesson with Julie Bassett Morton when her daughter Kira was sick. Amy had played saxophone as a teenager and had always loved singing, but unfortunately life as a working mother had sidelined her music-making hobby for many years.
On this fateful day when Amy tried out a music lesson, Julie helped her discover her knack for singing and playing the guitar and invited her to join an adult ensemble called Stations at RMC. Amy was hooked! Amy took on the role of the singer and continued learning guitar. Now, three years later, she is living out her musical dreams and has written five originals songs, performed at open-mic nights, RMC showcases, local bars, private parties, and many more.
Amy is now in a Classic Rock cover band called Amy & The Unknown. She sings lead, plays acoustic and electric guitar, piano and saxophone. Her band plays a mix of hits from the 70's, 80's and 90's and are a fun classic rock cover party band. Dana Forrest, the mother of two current RMC students, also sings in Amy & The Unknown.
Singing and playing gives me such much joy. I started my lessons 6 months before my 50th birthday and it has helped me rediscover my creativity and feel like a kid again. If you even have an inkling that you'd like to learn a musical instrument, give the teachers at RMC a try. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can live your dream of becoming a musician!
Amy & The Unknown is performing from 6-9 PM on Saturday, November 5th at the Downtown Cafe in El Cajon. This is a family-friendly venue with food, drinks and a dance floor. We hope you can come out and support our inspirational adult students!
